For our autumn concert, we return to the wonderful acoustics of our regular venue, St John the Evangelist in South Newbury.
Johann Sebastian Bach is one the greatest composers of all time, and probably the most important and influential. Not only that, many of his family were talented musicians and composers, and most were also called Johann! In this concert, we celebrate The Bach Dynasty at St John's.
Johann Christoph (1642 - 1703) and Johann Michael (1648 - 1694) were brothers, and cousins of J.S.Bach' father.
Johann Christian (1735 - 1782) was the youngest son of J.S. He was born in Leipzig, spent time in Berlin, was organist at Milan cathedral, and in 1762 became composer to the King's Theatre, London, becoming known as "The English Bach". He was a significant composer of the Classical period, influencing Mozart and Haydn.
