For our spring 2025 concert, we are delighted to be performing in the wonderful acoustic and fabulous space of Douai Abbey. As befits the season we will be performing a programme of Lenten music.
Our main work will be The Crucifixion, by Sir John Stainer. Popular with choirs and audiences since its first performance in 1887, The Crucifixion is structurally based on the Passions of Johann Sebastian Bach. It is composed for choir, organ, and tenor and bass soloists, and combines choruses, solos, and hymns reflecting on the passion narrative.
The rest of the programme spans Tudor music - Thomas Tallis' luminescent motet O Nata lux - to the contemporary, with Gabriel Jackson's beautifulTantum Ergo.
