Stainer - The Crucifixion
And other music for lent
Musical Director - Ben de Souza
For our spring 2025 concert, we delighted to be performing in the wonderful acoustic and fabulous space that is Douai Abbey. As befits the season we will be singing a programme of Lenten music.
Our main work will be The Crucifixion, by Sir John Stainer. Popular with choirs and audiences since its first performance in 1887, The Crucifixion is structurally based on the Passions of Johann Sebastian Bach. It is composed for choir, organ, and tenor and bass soloists, and combines choruses, solos, and hymns reflecting on the passion narrative.
