We would be delighted to welcome some new members. We're seeking 2 sopranos and a tenor. There are no auditions - we rely on common sense and mutual assessment. We take our singing seriously, as befits a choir of about 36, and we are pretty good musicians and readers, so we don't spend ages note-bashing. However, we have fun rehearsing and performing some great music, exploring, as often as not, some of the byways of classical music, as well as some of the highways. Our repertory stretches back to the 13th century, and we have recently had new works written specially for us; most of the time, however, we sing music of the 17th and 18th centuries and these concerts are accompanied by specialist professionals playing period instruments. We're proud of the standard we achieve.
Future concerts:
April 2020: Alessandro & Domenico Scarlatti and Lotti - Mass, Requiem, Magnificat
November 2020: Beethoven and Cherubini
Spring 2021: Handel - Acis & Galatea
We are professionally led by Edward Lambert, our musical director, who's has had a wealth of experience conducting and working with singers. We rehearse Tuesdays 7:45 to 9:30pm from September to June during school terms at St Nicolas Junior School, Link Road, Newbury RG14 7LY.
